Why Choose Asphalt Shingles?

Why Choose Asphalt Shingles?

Asphalt shingles seem to be the best solution for homeowners planning to replace their roof on a tight budget, while offering their home an attractive look and weather tightness. There are  two types of asphalt shingles: organic and fiberglass. The organic shingles are usually based on waste paper filled with asphalt to make it water resistant. It is coated with adhesive salt and ceramic granules on top. The fiberglass shingles contain a base layer of a glass fiber reinforcing mat. The mat contains a coating of asphalt. This contains mineral fillers which also make the shingle water resistant.

Although organic shingles are more durable than fiberglass shingles, they are however, more flammable. This feature makes them more prone to fire. They are also less friendly to the environment as a result of their high asphalt content. Fiberglass shingles on the other hand, provide better protection against fire. Fiberglass shingles are currently replacing organic shingles slowly.

Asphalt shingles are the most popular choices found in a competitive residential roofing market that is filled with many options. Although they are not as durable as some premium roofing materials, they offer adequate protection at a fraction of the cost of other materials.  In this article, the advantages of asphalt shingles shall be discussed.

Easy Installation

Asphalt shingles are easy to install. They do not require any specialized training or experience to install. Anyone that is a knowledgeable roofing contractor can install asphalt shingles. A homeowner knowledgeable in Do It Yourself projects can even install asphalt shingles without any guidance. Asphalt shingles are also light weight, thereby not requiring any support. Since this roof does not require any special type of tools, skills, or preparation work, it can be installed within a short time.

The low upfront cost of asphalt shingles is one of the benefits they possess. They are favored by many homeowners due to the affordability. An asphalt shingle that is properly installed will protect the home for up to 12 to 15 years, at a very affordable upfront cost.

Different Styles

The affordability of asphalt shingles does not affect their styles. Asphalt shingles come in three styles. Namely:

• Tab:  this is the least costly.
• Laminated
• Premium

You can choose the option that will provide the best match for your home. If you are willing to invest more money, then you can go for architectural shingles. They will give your roof a beautiful 3-dimensional look. Such shingles look like natural wood or slate shingles.

Asphalt shingles are also preferred because they have lower cost of installation, especially when compared to the cost incurred when installing slate, metal or tiles. You can also get a very good deal if you shop around. Due to the intense competition among asphalt roofing contractors in Denver Colorado, you can rest assured Denver Roofers LLC will offer the most competitive prices in the marketplace.

It did catch my attention when you said that asphalt shingle will cost you an affordable upfront cost which is why most homeowners favored it. My parents are looking to replace their old roof, so they’re looking to find the type of roof shingling that will work within their budget. They mentioned that they have a limited for their new roof, so it will make sense for them to consider asphalt shingles.

I found it interesting how you mentioned how asphalt shingles have a low upfront cost. My wife and I are in the process of building our new home and we want to make sure our roof is protected and cost-effective. I will be sure to keep this in mind as we look for a residential roofing contractor to help us put on our new roof!

My parent’s roof is starting to lose a lot of its shingles and needs to be replaced ASAP. It’s good to know that asphalt shingles are very cheap and usually last around 14 years. I think that will be the best option for them so they don’t have to break the bank on a new roof.
